Culture fit doesn’t mean they look like you

This original thought can be traced back to Rand Fishkin’s book, “Lost and Founder

As someone who hires people, the ideal candidate has all the necessary skills and is a good “culture fit” with the organization.

Culture fit is often mistaken as someone who will just “fit in” because they might become friends with everyone else at the office. They look like everyone, dress like everyone, and even have the same interests as a lot of the team members.

Hiring for those reasons alone will not tell you if the candidate is a good culture fit.

Culture fit is someone who practices the same core values as the company practices.

If a core value is “persistence”, how the person looks, dresses, and their interests have no bearing on if they can push through tough challenges.

How people work is 10x more important than how they look while doing the work.
